Sort function behaving strangely

I looked around in Microsoft Excel online help but came up empty-handed. Maybe someone here can help.

System information:

I’ve used the SORT function hundreds of times and have never encountered this before. Issue: I highlight (select) my data range, cells C4:J57 (54 rows X 8 columns), but when I go to sort my selection by clicking the Data tab, the three Sort options are grayed out. This function works fine when I perform the same operation on other data ranges of many various sizes. I even copied this range to a new sheet (thinking it could be the actual spreadsheet) but I got the same result. It must be something in the range itself but I don’t see anything weird. TBH, I don’t really know what I’m looking for anyway. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
