“Starting Work & Travel at 28. Am I late or just overthinking?
I’m 28 and about to leave in 4 weeks for a Work & Holiday in Japan and after that may comes Australia. I think I will be on the road for a few months/years.
Honestly, I’ve been questioning myself a bit.
On social media, I mostly see people doing this in their early 20s (22/23), and while I know there are also people in their mid-to-late 20s, I can’t help but feel like I might be “late” to this kind of experience.
And I know, that Social Media is kinda fake.
But what makes it harder is that no one in my immediate circle has done something like this or is planning to. Instead, I keep hearing things like I should focus on my career, settle down, or think about long-term stability (house, marriage, etc.).. It sometimes feels like people see this trip as something irresponsible or like I should have “outgrown” it by now. Especially close friends and family.
At the same time I feel like I’m still young and this is exactly the kind of experience I want to have before fully committing to a more conventional path.
So I’m curious, has anyone here started traveling or doing Work & Holiday later in their 20s? How did you deal with social pressure or doubts from others? And looking back was it worth it?
Would really appreciate hearing your perspectives. Thank you.
